| A three-storey building, located at No. 353, Challenge Road, off Amu Street, Mushin, Lagos Tuesday collapsed at about 2.35p.m. Several persons were trapped in the residential building, which caved in after a heavy downpour. However, the number of casualties could not be confirmed as at press time Tuesday. A building also collapsed, killing three children of same parents in Adarawa area of Dange town in Sokoto State last Sunday. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the structure caved in as a result of wind and rainstorm that occurred in the early hours of Sunday. The victims of the disaster were Zahara’u, Yusuf and Zainab Abu-Malam, aged 15, nine and seven respectively. The Chairman of Dange-Shuni Local Council, Alhaji Magaji Bodai, said Tuesday that two of the children died on Sunday while the third one died on Monday at a hospital following injuries sustained from the incident. The chairman described the incident as an act of God and prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for the family to bear the loss. Bodai said he had ordered an immediate rehabilitation of the collapsed building. Over six buildings were reported to have collapsed in Lagos last month. In fact, five buildings collapsed in a week, killing over 10 people in the state. Recently, a building also collapsed at Jakande estate, Oke-Afa , Isolo area of Lagos, killing two sisters. |
Collapsed Mushin Building Has 10 Landlords
Published on June 12, 2013 by pmnewsFacts have emerged that ten landlords own the building that collapsed Tuesday in Challenge Bus Stop area of Mushin, Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
The dilapidated building was said to have collapsed because each of the landlords wanted the other person to maintain it and the buckpassing continued for years until it collapsed Tuesday.
Now they will have to forfeit the land on which the house was built to the state government.
The Lagos State government through its agent, LASBCA, has ordered the tenants still occupying two other defective storey buildings close to the collapsed one at 353, Agege Motor Road, Challenge Bus Stop, Mushin, to pack out so that they could be demolished.

A child died when the building collapsed Tuesday and some of the occupants were reportedly trapped in the rubble. Security agents rescued some of the trapped tenants.
