Description | |
Wind from a powerful storm damaged buildings and knocked down trees and utility poles as a low-pressure system moved through the Phoenix area. Damage from the storm late Sunday appeared to be heaviest on the metro area's near west side. It included heavy damage to cotton warehouses, including some which lost their roofs, and a gas station's carport-style roof that was knocked over. At the Calcot warehouse facility near 51st Avenue and Missouri, there were more than 30 buildings on the property and now half of those buildings are gone. Some of the structures were made of wood and others steel, but they were no match for the powerful storm. |
