Description The official environmental authority in the Iraqi governorate of Missan, which is located 390 kilometres away from Baghdad, has announced the discovery of dangerous radioactive contamination that is attributed to the 2003 US-led war on Iraq. The director of the general authority for the environment in Missan, Samir Kadim, told the New Arab news website that the authority's specialised staff found radioactive material, mainly in military equipment and the skeletons of cars, in a small village south of Missan known as Karima. Kadim explained that the ministry's authority is cautiously entering the three areas where radioactive material was discovered and is taking strict procedures to remove it. The village witnessed one of the fiercest battles between the former Iraqi army and the US-led coalition forces in 2003. "Unfortunately, we have discovered it late, after a number of the village's residents have been diagnosed with various diseases," Kadim said.One of the village's residents told the New Arab in a phone interview that: "Cancer has spread among us, in addition to birth defects among new-born babies and other diseases that doctors cannot explain." "But it is only now that we have discovered the cause �" it is the US," said 45-year-old Abboud Moussa. Moussa described how a number of Karima's villagers, including children and his own mother, died as a result of this radioactive material. Doctors diagnosed his mother with skin cancer and bone disease, and they told him that she needed to receive medical treatment abroad, but she died very fast before she could travel. The village's mayor Mahmoud Abtan told the New Arab that a routine visit to the village by officials from the Ministry of Environment encouraged the villagers to ask them to examine a number of areas that had a bad smell. "A number of animals grazing near those areas have died ... people even thought that those areas were possessed. Then it turned out that they are not possessed at all, and our murderer is the US," he said.According to Missan's environment authority, Karima is the third place in the governorate where radioactive material has been discovered amid primitive treatment and an American refusal to take responsibility. Any US assistance in handling the radiation would be an acknowledgement of its use of internationally banned weapons in Iraq. Abdel Khalek Mahmoud, an environmental expert, told the New Arab that "radioactive contamination in Iraq is divided into two types: The first, which is rarely found in Iraq, is high-level radioactivity that can be discovered by electronic devices. The second is low-level radioactivity, which is more difficult to discover. It was caused by the waste of depleted uranium that was used by the US in its 2003 war on Iraq. This is abundantly found and it has caused a lot of lethal damage in the country." "We have often said that the reason why thousands of Iraqi soldiers went missing is that their bodies burnt as a result of uranium-saturated bombs. But the country's new leaders, who were empowered by the US, were not willing to bother the Americans," Mahmoud added.

The official environmental authority in the Iraqi governorate of Missan, located 390 kilometers away from Baghdad, has discovered radioactive material attributed to the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, Global Research reports. The director of the general authority for the environment, Samir Kadim, explained that dangerous contamination was found in military equipment left at a small village south of Karima that saw severe fighting between the Iraqi army and the US-led coalition forces in 2003.

Kadim laments that the contamination was not discovered soon after the military operation ended. Since then several people have been diagnosed with various serious diseases, from cancer to birth defects. "Unfortunately, we have discovered it late, after a number of the village’s residents have been diagnosed with various diseases."

Many need professional medical help only available abroad. Some succumbed to the disease without receiving any treatment.

Abboud Moussa told the New Arab: "Cancer has spread among us, in addition to birth defects among new-born babies and other diseases that doctors cannot explain."

"But it is only now that we have discovered the cause – it is the US."

Reportedly, this is the third case that radioactive material has been discovered in that area.

USA, UK, France will not admit the growing radioactive pollution of Iraq, due to depleted uranium weapons

The health effects are disputed by the US and UK governments, who joined with France and Israel to vote against a resolution calling for “a precautionary approach” to the use of DU weapons at the United Nations general assembly in December; 155 countries voted in favour of the resolution.

It also documents evidence that DU munitions were fired at light vehicles, buildings and other civilian infrastructure including the Iraqi Ministry of Planning in Baghdad – casting doubt on official assurances that only armoured vehicles were targeted. “The use of DU in populated areas is alarming,” it says, adding that many more contaminated sites are likely to be discovered.
More than 400 tonnes of DU ammunition are estimated to have been fired by jets and tanks in the two Iraq wars in 1991 and 2003, the vast majority by US forces. The UK government says that British forces fired less than three tonnes.
DU is a chemically toxic and radioactive heavy metal produced as wasteby the nuclear power industry. It is used in weapons because it is an extremely hard material capable of piercing armour.

WASHINGTON –- Senate supporters of the Keystone XL pipeline say they think they have enough votes to pass a bill that would force the approval of the controversial project. A group of 56 senators -- all 45 Republicans plus 11 Democrats –- introduced legislation on Thursday that would bypass the Obama administration and grant approval for the pipeline.
Sens. John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Mary Landrieu (D-La.) introduced the bill on Thursday. Democrats Heidi Heitkamp (D-N.D.), Mark Begich (D-Alaska), Mark Pryor (D-Ark.), Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.), Mark Warner (D-Va.), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), John Walsh (D-Mont.), and Kay Hagan (D-N.C.) are cosponsoring it.
Because it crosses an international border, the decision on the pipeline falls under the authority of the State Department. The State Department announced another delay on a decision last month in response to a court decision that invalidated the pipeline's proposed route through Nebraska, saying that it would wait to decide until there is more clarity on where the pipeline will ultimately run. The legislation would grant approval to "any subsequent revision to the pipeline route" in Nebraska, without requiring further environmental analysis.
"We continue to hear delay, delay, delay from the Administration about the Keystone XL pipeline. I’m beyond sick of it," Heitkamp said in a statement Thursday. "We have strong bipartisan support in the Senate for this project –- and I’m proud to have recruited support from 10 other Democrats last month. Now, all of those Democrats also signed onto this bill that we crafted to fully approve the construction of the Keystone pipeline. If the Administration isn’t going to make a decision on this project after more than five years, then we’ll make it for them. End of story."

MIYAKOJI, Japan — Ever since they were forced to evacuate during the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant three years ago, Kim Eunja and her husband have refused to return to their hilltop home amid the majestic mountains of this rural village for fear of radiation.
But now they say they may have no choice. After a nearly $250 million radiation cleanup here, the central government this month declared Miyakoji the first community within a 12-mile evacuation zone around the plant to be reopened to residents. The decision will bring an end to the monthly stipends from the plant’s operator that have allowed Ms. Kim to relocate to an apartment in a city an hour away.

“The government and the media say the radiation has been cleaned up, but it’s all lies,” said Ms. Kim, 55, who is from South Korea, and who with her Japanese husband runs a small Korean restaurant outside Miyakoji. “I want to run away, but I cannot. We have no more money.”

She is not the only one. While the central government and national news media have trumpeted the reopening of Miyakoji as a happy milestone in Japan’s recovery from the devastating March 2011 accident, many residents tell a darker story. They insist their homes remain too dangerous or too damaged to inhabit and that they have not received enough financial compensation to allow them to start anew somewhere else.

They criticize the plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., or Tepco, for failing to reimburse them for the value of their homes, usually their family’s largest financial asset. Depending on where they lived, they say they have received amounts from half the preaccident value to just $3,000, a tiny fraction of the original value of their homes.

Nuclear plant worker dies in accident
A construction worker at the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant has died following the collapse of a concrete foundation of a warehouse.
The plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Company, says the man in his 50s was buried by concrete and soil in the accident on Friday afternoon.
The man was among workers reinforcing the warehouse. He was in a 2-meter-deep hole in the ground at the time of the collapse.
He was pulled out of debris and taken to a hospital, but later died.
The warehouse, about 400 meters north of the plant's No. 1 reactor building, is used to store equipment.
The firm says the fatality is the first to occur due to an accident during work at the plant since the 2011 nuclear disaster, and that it is examining safety management at the site.

Govt. designates preparation zones for megaquakes
The Japanese government has designated areas that need to bolster their preparations for anticipated massive earthquakes and tsunami.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced the designations on Friday, based on advice from the government council on disaster preparedness.
The latest step is in line with 2 pieces of legislation that came into force last year---one for a powerful temblor hitting right underneath Tokyo and the other for a megaquake along the Nankai Trough in waters south of Japan.
A total of 310 municipalities in Tokyo and 9 neighboring prefectures were designated as areas that need to take urgent steps to prepare for a possible Tokyo quake.
707 municipalities spanning 29 prefectures were named as areas that should step up preparation for a Nankai Trough quake. These areas are projected to be hit by tremors with an intensity of 6-minus or more on the Japanese scale of zero to 7 and tsunami with a minimum height of 3 meters.
It is estimated that 139 municipalities in 14 prefectures would be inundated with water within 30 minutes after a Nankai quake. These communities have been given a special status that makes them eligible for greater state support to prepare for possible tsunami.
Basic government plans to mitigate damage from the 2 anticipated megaquakes were also endorsed.
Local governments are expected to use these plans to strengthen their disaster preparedness in the new fiscal year that starts in April.
Disaster Management Minister Keiji Furuya said on Friday that local governments, residents and the private sector must cooperate to fully prepare for disasters.
He urged local authorities in the designated areas to take thorough measures.

For all the naysayers who said that Fukushima radiation wasn’t hitting the West Coast, here’s a new one for you. UC Berkeley lab tests are now showing high levels of cesium in cattle feed from a California dairy farm that was sent to a lab nine months prior to the test results being received  - a long delay that suggests levels are much higher now. Then, the one-two-punch – asphalt along a roadside in the sunny city which catches plenty of rainfall was then measured, much more recently, and a disturbing 3579 pci/kg were found. By anyone’s standards, that cannot just be chalked up as background radiation. Fukushima fallout isn't just coming via ocean currents. It is in our rain, air and soil now.
After more than three years of government cover ups – from Japan, and within our own US agencies, the evidence is coming out from citizens, Universities, once-silenced scientists, and other reputable agencies making it almost impossible to keep the true damage of the Fukushima fallout quiet.
Those who have been looking for evidence – who haven’t seen fish washing up on their shores, or animals dying on their farms, insects with strange deformations – here’s the evidence. Radiation won’t kill you right away. It’s like other biotech and weaponized weather tactics our governments are using against their own people – it’s a soft kill that the disbelieving will wallow in, sadly, until they are already too far gone to realize the ‘conspiracy’ was truly to wipe out masses of people – whether it was done ignorantly for profit by the nuclear industry our as a false flag event to keep as all in check, and under totalitarian rule, will not matter.
