Description
Around 500 decares of pine forest are on fire close to the southern Bulgarian village of Spahievo, district of Haskovo, announced the press center of the Interior Ministry. The fire was reported to 112 emergency telephone number at around 1:20 p.m. local time on Thursday. Five teams of firefighters and 30 forestry workers arrived to find out that around 500 decares of pine forest were on fire. The firefighters have been putting out the flames for over four hours, as the high temperatures and strong wind are hampering their efforts. A MI-17 helicopter of the Bulgarian Air Force has joined the operation, announced the Defense Ministry.

The fire in the Belitsa Municipality in the southwestern region of Blagoevgrad that erupted Tuesday has been tamed and localized.
The news was reported Wednesday afternoon by the regional Fire Safety and Protection of Population services in Blagoevgrad.
The flames engulfed over 2 000 decares of pine forest and triggered panic among locals who, after seeing the approaching blaze, took what they could and left their homes despite assurances from the authorities that the blaze would not reach the residential areas.

170 fires put out in Bulgaria in past 24 hours

Sofia. Bulgarian firefighters and rescuers have responded to 215 incidents in the 24 hours, with 170 of them being fires and 36 being rescue and helping operations, announced the press center of the Bulgarian Interior Ministry.
102 fires broke out in dry grass and bushes. Firefighters are still extinguishing a fire between the southern villages of Studena and Radovets. Three teams of firefighters, forestry workers and 40 volunteers have been trying to contain the fire, which is burning on an area of 500 decares, for over three hours.
Four teams of firefighters, forestry workers and 50 local residents are trying to contain a fire close to the southern village of Otets Paisievo.

Code yellow’ heat wave warning in Bulgaria

A code “yellow” weather warning has been issued for 14 districts in Bulgaria on August 8 due to high temperatures, expected to range between 33C and 38C. This is the first weather warning issued by Bulgaria’s meteorology institute since July 29, when four districts were issued code “orange” alerts.
The areas affected by the code “yellow” are Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Lovech, Veliko Turnovo, Rousse, Kyustendil, Blagoevgrad, Pazardjik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Haskovo and Yambol. The heat wave is expected to continue on August 9, when more weather warnings are expected.
In Sofia, the city hall said that it would distribute water to people – at the Sveta Nedelya square and the National Palace of Culture (NDK). Authorities urged people to exercise caution, avoid going out in the hottest hours of the day (children and people suffering from heart conditions should be especially careful), not exercise excessively and to drink ample amounts of non-alcoholic fluids, especially water.

The sizzling weather in Bulgaria will reach one of its peaks for this year on Thursday, turning August into the hottest month of this year's summer.
On Thursday the mercury will zoom up to 33-38C in the southwestern parts of the country, highs in the capital Sofia have been forecast at 33C.
A total of 14 Bulgarian regions have been placed under Code Yellow because of the dangerous heat.
Code Yellow will be in effect for the regions of Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Blagoevgrad, Kyustndil, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol and Haskovo, with temperatures between 35C and 38C expected.
